Thiruvananthapuram Alumni Recreational Association for medicos(THARAM) got off to a colourful start last week. During the 9th Annual Convention held on 1st March the first edition of Tharam was inaugurated by the Transport Commissioner Sri. Rishi Raj Singh IPS. The event started with film songs by Dr. S. Aswini Kumar, Dr. K.A. Kumar and Dr, Sreerekha Panicker and Dr. Harikrishnan etc.. The old nostalgia was recreated by Dr. G.R. Santhosh Kumar and Dr Abraham Joshua and wife couple. Sopana Sangeetham was rendered in classical style by Dr. T.N. Vasudeva Panicker. The younger brigade of singers included Dr. Anoop, Dr. Sujith and Dr. Silpa. The Pooja dance item was a couplet from. The skit “Rpt all” (Repeaters) directed by Dr. Thomas Mathew dealt with several contemporary issues facing the medical students. The entrance exam culture initiated during the plus two days continues to the PG entrance preparation also. The poor performance of the students is revealed to the disbelieving parents during the Open House conducted by the faculty. The hilarious comedy had the audience fixed to their seats in spite of it being dinner time. It also set them thinking about the points raised in the play. The star cast was led by veteran cine and small screen actor Dr. G.S. Ambikatmajan Nair popularly Ambi sir (1953 batch). Other Alumni participating included Dr. Thomas Mathew (1979 MBBS batch), Dr. S. Vasudevan (1979 MBBS batch), Dr. Parameswaran, Dr. Sajeesh Gopalan, Dr. Kala Kesavan (1978 MBBS batch) & Dr. T K Kumari. The family members of Alumni participating were Mrs Jayasree Vellimana Vasudevan and Mrs Anju Sunoj. The veteran guests included the talented couple from Narmakairali Suresh Kumar and Sreekala. The next edition of Tharam will be in May last week. We are aware that not all aspirant singers were able to showcase their talents this time. The organisers express their regrets for any short comings and hope to rectify this in the next edition. Still they feel encouraged by the huge response in the form of participation and good crowd till the end late into the evening.
