Organ Transplantation services started at Trivandrum Medical College in 1998 with renal transplantation under Prof P Subramonian with mentoring from Prof Roy Chally. Deceased donor organ transplantation was started in 2012 and is going strong. Live related kidney transplantation has always progressed at a steady pace and reaches 400 shortly. Liver transplantation was also started with an index case done about two years ago. Further cases will take place as the upgradation in facilities is completed. Definitely the starting of a state nodal centre for transplantation is a big honour for Trivandrum Medical College considering the advances already achieved.
