Sad Demise of Dr. B Umadethan (Batch of 1963)

We offer our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Umadethan. We grieve the loss of such an eminent personality who was the former D.M.E (1997-1998) and Principal of T.M.C (05/96-12/97). A 1963 M.B.B.S batch Alumnus, Dr. Umadethan will not only be remembered as the foremost consultant in forensic science but also as a caring mentor and good friend.

Yoga is a group of physical, mental and spiritual practices which has its origins in India, 5000 years ago. The Sanskrit word “Yoga” comes from the root “Yog” which means “to unite”. In ancient India, Yoga was practiced by various religions including Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. The modern day Yoga in the western world is a modification of “hatha yoga” which mainly consists of changing various postures. The mention of Yoga is seen in Rigveda and  Upanishads.

The theme for this year’s world blood donor day- 'Safe blood for all'- focuses on the two cornerstones of an effective blood transfusion service, namely: safety and adequacy of  blood supply. Globally, the demand for blood and blood products is on the rise with increasing life expectancy of the population and the availability of advanced life saving treatment modalities like organ transplantation, chemotherapy and  life support systems.

World blood donor day is celebrated every year by  many countries around the world on June 14th. This day is the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner  (June 14, 1868) the great scientist who won the Nobel Prize for his discovery of ABO blood group system.

Every year on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). The event, established in 2004, serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products; and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood. It is celebrated every year on the day of birthday anniversary of Karl Landsteiner (14 June 1868).

On the 63rd graduation ceremony of Trivandrum Medical College, thousands witnessed 200 graduates gaining a new role in their lives after almost 6 years of continued dedication. They step out with the profound notion that from now on – it will be a central part of who we are, and over time the most important part of our lives.

On World TB day, March 24th, embarked on the mission to spread awareness about world's deadliest infectious disease,  students of Government Medical College Trivandrum, pedalling our way to the midst of the community, organised a Bicycle ride and an awareness campaign at Manaveeyam Veedhi, the cultural hub of Trivandrum.  The programme was organised jointly by TMC Cycling Club, IMA-MSN, Manaveeyam Theruvorakoottam and Indus Cycling Embassy.

Dr MP Ravindra Nathan 1958 Trivandrum Medical College Alumnus narrating his life story which started at his native school, followed by Maharaja's College and Trivandrum Medical College. Later he moved to UK and onward to US. He had at the peak of his practice "A cloak of invincibility " in his own words. The onset of renal dysfunction blew that away and through his journey he narrates that when you learn to live with your level of debility you live longer.
